        More Information on .45ACP Ammo:

  • Q: What is the appropriate .45ACP ammo to use?
  • Ans: You can use any Standard Pressure .45 ACP ammo, including Full Metal Jacket, Metal Case, Jacketed Hollow Points and of course, Lead bullets. Note: Jacketed ammo may wear out the bore of your barrel slightly faster than lead ammo.
If you are reloading, use .45 ACP bullets with a standard pressure charge of Smokeless powder. Follow the online recommendations on the powder manufacturers website.
  • Q: Should I use Smokeless or Black Power to reload .45 ACP?
  • Ans: For a modern cartridge like .45 ACP, Smokeless powder is preferred. Follow the online recommendations on the powder manufacturers website. However, Black Powder could also be used.
  • Q: Is it okay to use “plated” lead bullets, (like Berry’s Bullets) or Hi-Tek “polymer coated” bullets?
  • Ans: Yes, it is okay to use lead bullets with copper plating or a polymer coating on them. These plated or coated lead bullets smoke less, reduce barrel leading, and don’t transfer lead to your skin while reloading.

The fit & finish of the Kirst Konverter is awesome. It was drop in with no issues.
The few rounds I sent down range with it so far had no problems & I don’t expect any. I purchased the 45 ACP assembly since lead 45 ACP rounds are less expensive than 45 Colt. The assembly gives versatility & options to the ROA.
I went with Kirst vs other designs because of the simplicity- only a single firing pin. And, at the time, the Ruger Old Army Kirst Konverter was on sale too. I recommend this assembly to anyone who has a ROA.

I have a pair of these for my fixed sight old armys which I have used for cowboy shooting for several years. They are wonderful additions to these fine revolvers. I shoot with black powder and a Lyman 454190 bullet on top. What show stoppers when I light these off!

Just tested out my Kirst Konverter in my used Ruger Old Army. The cylinder fit right into the frame with absolutely no problem at all! It works perfectly! Hope to get one for my Uberti Remington next! Kirst’s service is superior and the Konverter arrived the very next day! Thank you Kirst for such great service and great products!

After buying a cartridge cylinder for my Remy 1858 I decided to buy one for my ROA as well. The cylinder has arrived and it fits my 1975 ROA perfectly, no need for filing or sanding. I am shooting .45LC smokeless rounds from it. I started with loads around 7-8000PSI and went up to 10000PSI. The cylinder withstands these loads without any issue. The only feature I miss is the gate from the ring, a gated version would be a big sensation for these guns. It would be also worth considering to design an 5-chamber version with thicker walls for the chambers. The gun is strong enough to handle hotter loads, and the cylinder should keep up with that. Anyhow, an excellent product.

I purchased both 45 ACP and 45 Long Colt cylinders in stainless steel for my Ruger Old Army. They fit great and it shoots both very well; really good accuracy. They’re not some cheap offshore junk, very well made and the finish is flawless. I feel the quality of the finish is second to none. Remember, you get what you pay for!

I’ve had mine in 45acp now for almost 10 years. Drops into my 5.5″ and 7.5″ perfectly. Fires without fail. It’s made my ROAs the more versatile handguns in my collection. Best Xmas present ever.

Just purchased a 45 Long Colt for my Ruger Old Army Stainless. The precision is amazing, it fits tightly with no play. Took it to the range yesterday and shot 40 rounds of Schofield with 5 grains of Red Dot and 200 grain SWC bullets. The accuracy was very good. The pistol shot flawlessly, and after just a few cylinders of shooting you can get pretty fast in the reloading. I only wish there was something like a manual transfer bar or firing pin shield to load all 6 chambers and be safe. I would highly recommend this to anyone interest in a conversion for their black powder pistols.
